Guitarist, bass player and composer Yuri 'Alexandrovich' Konstantinov established the progressive rock/metal band Shattered Light in the early stages of 2013. With participants on board from various global locations, that is Russia, Ukraine, USA, and Brazil. Though Shattered Light is referred to as a band it seems more like a project as there are multiple contributors plus guests listed in connection to the album, including not one but three keyboardists, and even a trumpet player. Their first album 5541 came to be as a result of a non-commercial association with a Russian charity organization called Rusfond, "The last track of "5541" is a call for charity, which could help ill children to overcome their trouble."
5541 is rather an atmospheric kind of release and also one where you will find some engaging music. As you can gather by the title "Crossroads Pt.1 Introductia" is the introduction and brief piano piece with the sounds of a fire fight, and later on the other instruments come online as they flow into "Crossroads Pt.2 Beginningless Glow" and Shattered Light's buoyant progressive music. Voiceovers feature at the start of "The Blackscattering" followed by some enjoyable instrumental performances, "5541" is another with voiceovers and a strong ambience. The drums do seem to be programmed with decent patterns and though adequate the artificial sound does serve as a detraction in part, onto a more positive note and vocalist Egor Arkhipov has a pleasing style that suits their material, those multiple keyboardists that I mentioned above play an influential role and the guitars and bass work is up to task.
Give 5541 a go especially if you're looking for something different as that it is, and there is a very persuasive incentive to do just that as Shattered Light's debut can be downloaded via the band link below and at zero charge.
