Vomitile: Mastering the Art of Killing

Vomitile comes from Cyprus, an island in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. I bring that up mostly as a point of contrast. Most people associate life on an island with smooth and comfortable sounds, the kind of stuff one listens to when life gets stressful and a vacation under the sun is in order. But this band has nothing to do with that. Instead, Vomitile creates crushing (though slightly melodic) death metal, the kind that is poised and ready to unleash hell on the world.

The music here is heavy and dark, usually drawing on bleak themes of war and violence and destruction. I can't say it any better than this: the music here is heavy, never letting up from its direct assault. The guitars, which often play in unison, are tight and powerful, giving the music an extra punch and groove. I also thought that Khatch Yildizian's growls were terrific, always matching the tone and mood of the music perfectly. He also plays bass on this album.
