All you early '80s metalheads certainly remember that first album where Germany's Scorpions really made some major waves on North American shores, and that was with the release of their 1982 classic Blackout, and subsequent tour across the US with Rainbow. Here once again is this landmark album, presented in sparkling quality for both SACD & regular CD formats from those always dependable folks at Audio Fidelity. Whether you have one of those cool SACD systems or just a plain old CD player, no doubt you'll be able to hear Blackout is some seriously renewed sonic glory.
As for the songs, well, we are all quite familiar with the hit "No One Like You", the high energy metal rockers "Dynamite", "Now!", "Can't Live Without You", and the blitzkrieg title cut, but it was the bands more subtle side, heard on "You Give Me All I Need" and "When the Smoke is Going Down" that signaled a sign of more accessible material to follow. The guitar work is crunchy & fiery, the vocals powerful, the songs anthemic, just like you remembered them. The crystal clear audio on display here will certainly please fans who perhaps have one of those really old CD pressings, and if you do possess an SACD player, well, there's no reason to wait to scoop this one up. Just remember supplies are limited so act now.
