Wow, this one has really snuck up on me. If I'd have been paying closer attention this album would have scored highly in my 2014 end of year list. Still, no use crying over spilt milk, I'll just have to extoll the virtues of this highly impressive effort from this Norwegian outfit. Technical matters first: the album was mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Paradise Lost, Symphony X, Amon Amarth, Kreator) at Fascination Street studios, Sweden and he's located a spacious yet sympathetic sound for Triosphere's melodic, passionate delivery.
On one hand Triosphere are pretty heavy duty progressive metal yet commercial act but still manage to remain extremely powerful musically. Best of all they possess some quality tunes such as the splendid title track which also features wonderfully fluid guitar lines. The fact that this is followed by the lovely "Virgin Ground" makes the album's closure really special. It's on this final track where bass playing vocalist Ida Haukland gets the chance to shine and shine she does. The Heart Of The Matter is a quality release from a band which deserves wider recognition.
