Ozric Tentacles: Eternal Wheel- The Best Of

Lord have mercy. If there's a subgenre of progressive I dislike more than space rock, I don't know what it is. While I have to admire some outfits, such as Hindira Spacefolk (a great lot that is), for their talent and innovation, I'm loathe to go wild in the streets, buying discs that should take me to the moon. The simple fact is, space rock rarely seems spacey to me at all. Often, in fact, it sounds like nothing more than new age music that happened to pop an expired ginsing. Ozric Tentacles, is, of course, an exception. There are real-life grooves and moods evident in the band's material, attention to details that too few jam bands get and as far as imagination and expansion of the sonic senses? Well, Ozric may be the premiere band for that.

Collecting material from 1990 through till 2002, this disc probably won't get Ozric hardcorers excited but it will connect some mild enthusiasts with material they may have otherwise missed out on if Erpland is the only thing they know. The Ozrics are all right by me, man. Maybe I need to give some of those other spacefolk less of a hard time. What do you think?

The second disc, which features a bonus video verson of "Kick Muck," may be a little too short for some. It's a slender 33 minutes of audio, perhaps worth the climb for some but definetly not for all.
