Wallner, Will & Vivien Vain: The Battle Of Clyst Heath

British rock guitarist and columnist for Guitar World magazine Will Wallner first met Croatian singer Vivien Vain in 2010. They soon discovered a mutual passion for classic hard rock. Bands like Thin Lizzy, Deep Purple, Rainbow and Blue Murder became the basis of their muse and they released their self-titled debut album in 2012 which included some notable guest performances from Derek Sherinian, Tony Franklin and Carmine Appice, just to name a few. Their latest album The Battle Of Clyst Heath features Vivien Vain (vocals), Will Wallner (guitar), Bjorn Englen (bass) and Giovanni Durst (drums). Guests include Carmine Appice (drums), Vinny Appice (drums), Tony Franklin (bass), Neil Murray (bass) and Don Airey (keys).

If you like classic hard rock sounds The Battle Of Clyst Heath should be right up your alley. On first listen elements of Deep Purple can easily be heard on the scorching "You Won 't Take Me Alive" and "Black Moon" carries a hint of Iron Maiden with its fiery guitar solo and soulful lead vocals. Excellent Rainbow-like riffs imbue the heavy "Eye Of The Storm" while "The Loner" is a fittingly rocking tribute to the late guitar genius Gary Moore. For a moodier edge try the title track loaded with razor sharp riffs or the dramatic builds in the "Blade Runner" theme, originally penned by Vangelis.

The Battle Of Clyst Heath should appease most serious rock fans, especially those who enjoy classic heavy rock of the '70s and '80s. Recommended.
