Brainoil: Brainoil

I'm pretty sure I always editorialize about reissues. I'm not sure why I do it—most of the time, I like the album well enough to go on and on about it. This album is no exception. Yeah, it's a reissue; the original album came out in 2003. I'm not sure that this is a special occasion or anything. It's just that it's now available in a limited edition vinyl. So that's cool. I'm not a vinyl collector, so I don't get quite as excited about that as other folks.

What I do like is hearing albums that I either missed the first time around or that simply were too hard to find. This album is both. This reissue, then, gives us all a chance to hear this killer release from Brainoil. Members of this band have been in groups like Laudanum, Stormcrow, Watch them Die, Pig Heart Transplant, and others. The music here is crusty sludge and it sounds awesome. My favorite track was "Complete? / Lucid Vision," but there's no less to be had with tracks like "Naïve in a Bliss" and "One Leaf Untouched." This is good stuff.
