hed (pe): hed (pe)

These boys are busy! To say that hed(pe) gives us a mixture of styles would be an understatement. It's all here, for better or worse: rap, raggae, funk, and metal.

Take the simplistic aggression of Rage Against the Machine and the trippiness of DJ Shadow with a little Suicidal Tendencies, Faith No More and Cypress Hill thrown in, and you have (hed)pe.

The first four songs kick things off fairly well, beat-heavy and tough-guy-rock. The lyrics do not sound like they are worth trying to understand let alone transcribe (which they did not). But nothing here particularly stands out. With "Tired of Sleep (T.O.S.)" they take a step back, put away the bats and bring out the bongs. Then with "Circus", they get mad again.

This disc has a few moments...but just a few. There are good samples, bass-lines and other bits-and-pieces. But it just does not move this listener. Where's the real guitar riffs? All this has is a bunch of tedious, unfulfilling guitar fill. Look for one of the aforementioned bands' albums instead.
