Dalton: Pit Stop

In 1989 Dalton made an album called Injection and erm…that appeared to be it. They just disappeared into the Where-Are-they-Now File and that appeared to be that for the band. Like many bands of that era they were killed off by the merciless rise of grunge and their plaid clad soldiers so it possibly comes as somewhat of a surprise to see the band return. Equally possibly it isn't a surprise given the cyclical nature of the music industry and especially given the splendid nature of Pit Stop.

This is a fabulous melodic rock album. In fact I'd go as saying it's the best Gotthard album since Steve Lee's tragic demise such are the vocal inflections of Bo Lindmark. Alongside Mats Dahlberg - drums, Anders Lindmark - bass, Leif Westfahl - lead guitar, and the sadly recently very ill Ola Lindstrom – keyboards, Lindmark has unleashed one of the fluffiest, keyboard-led albums of recent times. Another touchstone would be The Storm especially in the semi-ballad "Follow Your Dreams" which practically begs for lighters and phones to be lifted up in the air.

Special mention must go to the seemingly omnipotent Erik Mårtensson (Eclipse/ W.E.T.) who has found the perfect balance between muscle and sheen. It must have helped him that the band has produced tremendous driving AOR rockers such as "Up & Down" which is one of those glad to be alive songs so many of us remember from the 80s. An unexpected treat of a release.
