Hod: Book of the Worm

With this album, the guys in Book of the Worm set themselves up as serious contenders within the extreme, hardcore, and brutal music scene. Over the last few weeks, I've listened to this album several times and I find it compelling in all the right ways. The music pushes against the listener, creating wave after wave of hard-hitting and aggressive music that demands to be heard. Just pick any of the tracks and you'll discover how fairly simple riffs and pounding rhythms may be transformed into rough and satisfying metal songs. I was especially impressed with the way the band brings elements of thrash, hardcore, and death metal into the mix. This is the kind of music that could whip an audience into a moshing frenzy. Some listeners might find the music a bit repetitive at times, but there's simply no time to worry about things like that. This is music for those who want to escape into the speed and brutality of the whole thing. If you love thrash-inspired hardcore metal with a technical edge, this is a dream come true.

Be sure to check out "When the Ghouls Feed," "Through the Gates (They Come for Me)," and "Beneath the Mountains of the Scorpion."
