Bailey: Long Way Down

Who is/are Bailey? Bailey is the given name of the new project from by Three Lions frontman Nigel Bailey who has been a busy chappie recently. He has a vast experience as songwriter and performer and his deal with Frontiers Records has begun to bring him to the fore as both a singer and as songwriter. On Long Way Down Bailey provides guitars, bass as well as lead and backing vocals. He is helped out by Mario Percudani: on electric, acoustic and slide guitars and Alessandro Mori on drums. In a not exactly massive shock Alessandro Del Vecchio kelps out on keyboards as well as producing.

There's plenty to like about Long Way Down especially in the songwriting department where we find hooks aplenty. Sure the big book of melodic rock clichés gets dipped into on occasions especially during "Bad Reputation" ("Don't think about tomorrow, I'm only living for tonight,")but the tunes and general vibe are hugely infectious. On occasion things slip into a somewhat lumpen pub rock kind of melodic rock but I've always enjoyed that kind of thing so it's not a big deal for me ("Stay" being the biggest culprit.) The standout tunes in my opinion are the really quite touching "Somewhere in Oslo", where the singer's lady friend absconds guess where? Rest assured, however, that he's, "not giving you up without a fight," this allied to the supremely melodic "Ticket to Yesterday" ensures that the album finishes strongly and completes a pretty good year for Mr Bailey.
