Dillinger Escape Plan: Miss Machine

There's really no point in writing a review of Dillinger Escape plan at this point in time. The band's experiencing a special kind of street popularity that borders right on the edge of being a phenomenon, a kind of popularity that ensures that dissin' Dillinger at this point in time will get you more hate mail than a TV executive who suggests that Osama bin Laden may be the right man for the Craig Killborn chair on the Late Late Show. But besides that, Dillinger, along with Mastodon, is making records of such consistent topnotch quality that the question is not whether these records will be good but just how good they'll be. Reviews become, in effect, notices that the record has been released, an invitation for all of you to take and eat, rather than a cold, hard stare down the nostrils of who lives and who dies... and that's the case with Miss Machine. With tracks such as "The Perfect Design," "Baby's First Coffin" and "Phone Home," this band displays the reaches of its diverse talents and promises that, given the choice between innovation, reinvention, progress or playing it safe, this collective will always take the former. Hallelujah.
