Yurkofsky, Dan: Hoverhill – Songs of Dan Yurkofsky Volume 1

Dan Yurkofsky is a singer/songwriter based out of New York. On his new album Hoverhill, Yurkovsky channels the time he lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico for his main influence. The music travels between the blurred lines of ambient and new age crossing into mellow folk music as well. To say this album is a mellow affair is an understatement. In fact, this is one of the softest albums I have ever heard.

It is hard to describe individual tracks as they are all so similar. Slow tempos, sparse instrumentation, soft keyboards and gentle vocals. The folky vibe plays out occasionally when the acoustic guitar strumming unfolds, but really, this is mostly ambient music, albeit with some pretty melodies along the way.

If you want something very light and dreamy Hoverhill might do the trick. This is one of those albums that I will only play at certain times, like when I want to be in a deeply relaxed state or am falling asleep. Party music this is not.
