Not to be confused with Norwegian alternative country rockers Helldorado, Lessons In Decay is the second album from this hard rocking German quartet and comes some two years on from their debut. A definite throwback to the 80's sleaze / glam style that went into hibernation for the following decade or so, Lessons In Decay blends heavy riffing with a few hints of melody and the occasional catchy chorus but overall is a hit and miss affair with one or two bright spots but far too much below par song writing that means it rarely rises above the average.
Starting with the positives 'Seven Deadly Sins' makes for a bright enough opening with some decent group vocals on the chorus which serve to disguise the weedy lead vocal and 'By The Progress' packs a punch with insistent, edgy riffing. The tongue-in-cheek humour in the lyrics to the bluesy 'The Devil Takes The Hindmost' are good fun and the defiant 'We Won't Back Down' has echoes of early 80's UFO and is all the better for it. But four so-so songs don't make for a great album and the rest of Lessons in Decay is pretty mediocre fare with some truly awful lyrics repeated ad infinitum ('In For The Kill', 'Anytime, Anywhere') and too many stale clichés that do little to inspire. Proceed with caution.
