Holy Dragons: Dragon Inferno

What a difference a couple of years can make, Holy Dragon's follow up to 2012 Zerstorer is titled Dragon Inferno and the group have had a major line-up change, now with a new lead vocalist. Now that is where the problem lies, as the key issue with Dragon Inferno is I can't help but feel how much better this album would have been with his predecessor. When this new guy tries too hard well it really magnifies his limitations, you only have to check out the title track to hear what I'm referring to. The accompanying write up referred to Holy Dragons as "Kazakhstan's Heavy Metal giants", well sorry but Dragon Inferno isn't the right album to back that claim up. Highlights include the guitar riffs/solos and well that guitar work. Like Zerstorer the drum and overall sound isn't perfect, but it does the job.

Holy Dragons have been recording their power/speed metal songs for many years as they formed in 1992 so they are no amateurs, but Dragon Inferno would be a much easier album to digest if it was full of instrumentals. Listening to Dragon Inferno you can hear the potential that sadly hasn't been realised, as a result Zerstorer is a far stronger option both vocally and song wise than Dragon Inferno which is a step or should I say leap backwards.
