Vega: Stereo Messiah

British melodic rockers Vega return with their third studio album Stereo Messiah which once again appears courtesy of the Frontiers label as was the case with their debut album Kiss of Life in December 2010. The new recording features the key tune "10 X Bigger than Love" which Def Leppard singer Joe Elliot gave the band. He also appears to duet with singer Nick Workman on the song which explains exactly why it sounds like Joe Elliot is on the track and why the Leppard vibe is so prevalent!

The album has caused some commotion in melodic rock circles with opinions sharply divided between it not being as good as their first two albums and it being a work of genius. Personally I believe this is their best yet. Imagine that many may have an issue with the material not being as immediate as melodic rock often is. Only the wonderful (and dark) "Ballad Of The Broken Hearted" with the fairly sinister 'whoa oh' backing vocals really grabbed me initially whereas the rest took a while but give this album a chance because repeated listens reveal hidden depths which are well worth the time and effort. A prime example is "The Fall" which, annoyingly, has been in my head for ages now and won't go away!
