October 31: Bury the Hatchet

I recently posted a review of The Lurking Corpses' new album. This album, also released by Hells Headbangers, develops similar materials and does so quite convincingly. Whereas The Lurking Corpses plays heavy rock with a rather tongue-in-cheek attitude toward its horror themes, this band turns to thrash elements to give things a slightly stronger edge. I won't dwell on the comparisons too much. If you like The Lurking Corpses, you will probably want to check out October 31. They both have a similar vibe.

I was especially fond of "Down at Lover's Lane," a retelling of the story of the hook. You know the one, don't you? A couple goes to a secluded spot to fool around and hear something mysterious outside of the car. Spooked and vulnerable, the couple decides to go home. When the young man gets out of the car to open the door for the young woman, he sees a hook hanging from the door knob. Oh, yeah. I also liked "The House Where Evil Dwells" because it was really catchy and it reminded me of famous evil houses like Hill House, the House of Usher, and others.

It's almost Halloween, so check out some horror-infused metal with a thrashy exterior.
