Amulet: The First

From London comes Amulet, and their Century Media debut titled The First. Comprised of Bill Dozer (Bass), Dave Sherwood (Drums), Heathen Steven (Guitars), Jamie Elton (Vocals), and 'Nip' Blackford (Guitars), the band play an old school form of metal highly influenced by the classic bands of the original NWOBHM movement. Like Iron Maiden, Tygers of Pan Tang, Satan, Saxon, Demon, and Diamond Head? Well, then you've come to the right place. Tracks like "Bloody Nights", "Evil Cathedral", "Mark of Evil", and "Nightmare" all contain plenty of galloping rhythms, chugging riffs, and twin guitar mayhem, and while Elton isn't the worlds best vocalist, he's perfectly suited to this type of metal. "Trip Forever" wouldn't have sounded out of place on either of Def Leppard's first two albums, and "Glint of the Knife" is pretty damn infectious, from the heavy riffs to the memorable chorus.

Is The First at all original? Hell no, but it doesn't need to be. Short, memorable heavy metal anthems, well played, and produced to sound like it was recorded in 1983. Can't go wrong with that, and I'll bet we'll be hearing much more from this band in the months & years to come.
