Steve Rothery Band: Live in Rome

Marillion frontman Steve Rothery has been a very busy chappie recently with a recent live release from the day band, this effort which came out in Europe a couple of months ago and the even newer The Ghosts of Pripyat album which was crowd funded on Kickstarter. The Ghosts of Pripyat is an instrumental album and features guests such as Steve Hackett and Steven Wilson and is previewed here in great detail (although without the guests.) As one might expect with proggie instrumentals everything meanders along very much in its own time and occasionally touches upon self-indulgence but surely that's what is expected? Helpfully Rothery explains in some detail what the tracks mean thematically and the playing is exquisite throughout and is a definite purchase for fans of Rothery and indeed Marillion. Marillion hits are brought out to play in order to bring in the more casual fan and very nice they are too – as is the whole album.
