On/Off/Man: Giant Backsteps

To Dubstep or not? Electro - Prog……. On/Off/Man Backsteps sounds highly convoluted and strange, a soundtrack to the space-age.

There is something rather catchy about the whole affair to be honest, the band offer an approach that has some meat about it; it's layered and powerful soundstages drag you into the listening experience, with more twists and turns than a meandering snake. Just when you think you have just got your head around the approach the band is taking, all change……... The music laid before your feet, a presentation that involves a variety of rhythms which are in some ways unexpected in their context, almost like disturbances or interruptions in the natural flow of the music is what makes this whole affair so interesting.

The album is full of drum beats and breaks that mix well with the presented electronic sounds and sequencers, married with some rather phat bass lines and dynamic and intensive guitar work; oh and let's not forget some rather exquisite piano parts too. The album works best when cranked up loud although this isn't a pre requisite to gain maximum enjoyment.

Is there a downside to the album? Yes! It's too damn short, or maybe that was the intensions of the band, just to feed you enough morsels to leave you wanting more. Definitely an album for lovers of space rock. Very intriguing indeed. This is what the illegitimate love child of Ozric Tentacles and Dub would sound like.
