Parhelia: The Precipice of Change

Hailing from the land that first spawned the majestic Thin Lizzy, Dublin, Ireland, is a magical band called Parhelia. Their 2nd CD, entitled The Precipice of Change, is nothing short of glorious. The 7 track instrumental foray into the outer reaches of your mind is utterly brilliant and elegantly done. The record harkens back in the 70's Golden Age of Prog sensibilities without the self indulgence that off puts some. This is a great record.

The Precipice of Change not only sonically sounds superior, but this record is quite simply beautiful in every way imaginable. The record is hypnotic and spatial and the songs are meticulously crafted into a seamless and flawlessly executed product that you will find yourself yearning for more. 7 songs are but a mere tease of trip that these guys invoke onto you. The ebb & flow of "Desert of Thought" or CD opener, "Latitude By Longitude" are perfect examples of Prog, Ambient and Jazzy stylings all combined into a beautiful musical concoction that will elevate your cerebral consciousness.

Parhelia are Greg & Phil Clarke on Guitar and effects and Cathal Rodgers on Bass, Keys and effects with drums provided on the album by Nils Helstrom. The guitars soar in a minimalistic, sub-conscious way that allows the rhythm to drive the music in a quite interesting and steady way without ever becoming confusing. Parhelia's music is clear, concise and extremely well balanced. What a wonderfully beautiful album.

The Precipice Of Change is a self-release and is available directly from the band's website at the link below.
