Palmer, Carl: Decade - The 10th Anniversary DVD

Carl Palmer needs no introduction. He is one of the most renowned and revered drummers in rock history, and a founding member of both Emerson, Lake, and Palmer and ASIA. I have appreciated his drumming for decades with both bands as well as his solo projects.

Now Palmer is releasing a 10th anniversary DVD for his ELP Legacy band. The band includes Paul Bielatowicz on guitar; Simon Fitzpatrick on bass; and of course Carl Palmer on drums and percussion. The video was filmed live at the Musik Café in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The DVD celebrates the intricate drum and percussion work done by Palmer on all of these classic ELP tracks, as well as the guitar and bass music that fill the musical space that Greg Lake's voice and Keith Emerson's keyboards created.

This is a great collection of tracks that demonstrate the utter precision and innovation that Carl Palmer brought to the drum kit as a progressive rocker for two of the genres' titans. It is a candid look at every note and synchronized movement of this great artist and musical talent.

However, as a fan of ELP I did miss Greg Lake's voice and Keith Emerson's keyboards innovations. The songs are great and well played, but the missing voice and keyboards left the music sounding a little hollow to me.

Drummers on the other hand will love this DVD set that allows them to concentrate on their favorite instrument being played by one of the world's greatest.
