Ghost Season: Ghosts Like Her

Ghosts Like Her is a reasonably sophisticated beginning from Greek newcomers Ghost Season; a band adding modern Alt-Metal elements to a sturdy traditional Metal base. Vocals with bags of character and always just on the right side of losing control make a big impact, as does twin guitar work which leaps at times from Maiden to Trivium, and much in between, while never quite being as finely honed.

"Need" rumbles along at mid-pace, snare drum popping throughout, "Alive" striding a little more confidently, staccato guitars matching the pounding kick drums, while the title track adds a little more sophistication alongside a more aggressive outlook.

Individuality may be a little hard to come by and there's a worry that if this lot aren't careful they might just fall too close to trend chasing, as a little growling and screamo feel like they're added for the sake of it. However with blazing solos and a solid rhythm section, it has to be said that Ghost Season are, unusually, a Greek band not simply looking to plunder the Euro/UK Metal scene of old and they certainly deserve plaudits for that.

Ghosts Like Her is a solid start suggesting that the debut full length from Ghost Season might just be worthy of attention when it arrives.
