King of Asgard began life in 2008 when Karl Beckman joined forces Karsten Larsson, whom he had previously performed with in the well-known viking horde Mithotyn. Together they established the foundation of King of Asgard, both musically as well as in the Norse heritage lyrical approach. Karg is their third album following Fi'mbulvintr from 2010 and …to North which saw the light of day in 2012. Andy LaRocque is once again in charge of production whilst Karl Beckman says, "It's darker, it is harsher, and more stripped down than our previous releases. More mature, precise and well thought out."
Another member of the SoT team described King of Asgard as a, "more commercial Amon Amarth,"which is not a statement with which I can agree but I can certainly see why the comparison is made. I'd suggest that King of Asgard are quite a bit less melodic especially when compared with Amon Amarth's most recent output. This is a very solid melodic death metal release full of gigantic riffs (hewn from mountains naturally) and a very nice cover of Bathory's "Total Destruction" is a very nice added bonus.
