Cooper, Alice: Raise The Dead Live From Wacken (DVD / CD)
A headlining set from the Wacken Festival in 2013 by Alice Cooper and his band is captured on this expansive three disc package that comprises a single DVD and two CD's. The Raise The Dead tour is Alice's most recent global trek and featured a line-up that included blonde bombshell guitarist Orianthi. The set list was an all-encompassing trip through Alice's long career that took in hits, deep cuts and selected cover versions that paid tribute to some of rock and rolls fallen heroes.
Visually an Alice Cooper live show is always a treat although here the theatrical elements are reigned in for the first part which kickstarts with 'Hello Hooray' and moves though gems such as 'No More Mr Nice Guy', 'Under My Wheels' and 'Billion Dollar Babies'. As the show at Wacken took pace outdoors this works well as dusk falls and the gruesome gorefest really begins with 'Feed My Frankenstein' and Dr Alice is transformed into a ten foot monster to terrorize the rest of the band. Alice really does manage to raise the dead with covers from The Beatles, The Doors, Hendrix ( captivating version of 'Foxy Lady' with Orianthi very much in the spotlight) and The Who before the obligatory 'Poison' and 'School's Out' close the show.
Icon, Legend, Godfather of Shock Rock….whatever your views on Alice he always delivers and this latest release is no exception.
