Bennett, Ben/Jack Wright: Tangle

Ben Bennett (drums and percussion) and Jack Wright (alto and soprano saxophones) have been playing together for six years. Their new album titled Tangle is an exercise in free jazz that did not sit well with my senses even after a couple of listens. The music appears to veer in haphazard directions with no discernable melodies to alleviate the pure chaos the music strives for. It is this atonal approach that I found so disjointed. The first rack "Embroiled" is a prime example. The chaotic drum sounds and bursts of squelching saxophone was more like noise than music to my ears and the other two tracks were of similar ilk.

Sorry guys but Tangle just isn't for me. If avant-garde free jazz appeals to your senses by all means give this a listen. For everyone else it's enter at your own risk.
