Braide, Chris: Fifty Dollar Planets and Twenty Cent Stars

Like many others I had never heard of Chris Braide, that is until I received this promo a few weeks ago. He has worked with an extensive list of artists including Glen Tilbrook, Geoff Downes, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears and many others. Don't let his work with the aforementioned pop star divas scare you off. If you appreciate melodic pop/rock with a '70s flair and influences like T Rex and Squeeze there should be plenty for you to sink your teeth into. His third solo album Fifty Dollar Planets and Twenty Cent Stars is the subject of this review.

The album begins strong with the title track, a throwback to the feel good rock grooves of the '70s. His voice recalls Marc Bolan. "This Is For The Girl" is another catchy pop/rock number with a bit of a Squeeze feel while "Fascinating" is a pleasant mid tempo ballad. Part of what makes this album so catchy are Braide's vocals. His voice perfectly blends with his ultra-catchy songwriting. Other highlights include the dreamy pop of "Take What You Can" featuring Braide's silky smooth lead vocals and catchy keyboard arrangement and the hard rocking "It's Not Too Late".

Fifty Dollar Planets and Twenty Cent Stars is chalk full of solid melodic rock and pop that should appeal to anyone who enjoys catchy songwriting. This will have fans of AOR begging for more.
