Rickity: Greatest Hits Volume 1

Rickity is a classic rock influenced band from the United States whom I was unfamiliar with before listening to their debut album Greatest Hits Volume 1. In the band are Perrita (lead vocals), Paul Gifford (vocals, percussion, samples), Teddy Rondinelli (lead guitar, vocals), Neil Cicione (drums), Paul Latimer (rhythm guitar, keyboards) and Randy Pratt (bass, harmonica).

The album begins with "Out Of Bounds", a decent rock track with a standard verse/chorus/verse structure and good lead vocals. Perrita's voice has a soulful element that suits the band's hard rock style. "Heroin" is a melodic mid-tempo ballad with some hard hitting lyrics while "She's The One" is a catchy rocker where the keyboards are used more effectively providing washes of colour to the band's sound. "Doin' It For Cash" goes for a bluesier sound complete with harmonica, banjo and violin.

Greatest Hits Volume 1 is a pleasant enough album, nothing more nothing less. While the playing is adequate and the vocals are quite nice nothing really reached out and grabbed me. That said, if you are looking for music that isn't too complicated Rickity might scratch that itch.
