Adrian Weiss: Easy Game

How do you spend nearly 53 minutes absorbing some absolutely stunning musical chicanery? Well I am going to let you in on a secret……… Track down a copy of Adrian Weiss' second solo album Easy Game, take the disc out of its packaging and place it in your Hi Fi, crank that sucker up to 11 and press play. The sonic magic that will exude from your speakers will mesmerise, pleasure and entertain you; you won't know what air instrument to grab first as the majestic and emotive sculptures will ensconce your whole being.

It isn't often that one can play an album from the word go, listen to it in its totality and feel that one has not wasted a second of one's time, such is the power, structure and downright adeptness of this album. Each play brings something new to the table as layer after layer of notation presents itself to the listener, leaving the listener under no illusion that they have just had a masterclass by an expert of their discipline.

So let's get down to the bones of Easy Game see's Adrian taking the heaviness of his approach a little further marrying various styles, manipulating various metal, rock, progressive, fusion and blues styles, whilst maintaining copious amounts of melody. As we all know it is quite easy for instrumental albums to wane at times due to the composer running out of ideas, something that both Adrian Weiss and the album have eluded. Easy Game is just filled with so many highlights which include the epigrammatic Awkward Silence, the technical and convoluted Instant Relief, the eastern toned finger blistering Camel's Dance, the soaring and emotive Night Owl but to name but a few.

All I am going to add to this review is the following; do yourself a favour and hunt a copy of this album down; you won't be disappointed in the slightest. Easy Game is one of the best albums I have heard this year thus far.
