Lost Reflection: ScareCrowd

It's doubtful that many ardent 80s US Rock fans will find the cassock and cross wearing skeleton meets scarecrow on the front cover of ScareCrowd, by Italian upstarts Lost Reflection, eye catching, especially when you factor in the standard Extreme Metal typeface with which the band name is scrawled. However that's exactly the "enticement" that will cause this band's target audience to simply walk, or browse, on by. In truth, they won't be missing much.

Guitarist and singer Fabrizio Fucro may well have played bass in Crimson Glory man Ben Jackson's solo group, but little, if any of that kind of class rubs off on what is a straight up, no frills stagger through uninspired Rock ideas and sparkle free choruses. If anything this is the sort of fare that the likes of Britny Fox, or LA Guns would have turned down flat; "Hail To Rock" or "Rock 'n' Roll Nation" far from living up to their name. "Faith Or Fear" does at least inject a little impetus and the closing "Armageddon" offers a smidge of foreboding atmosphere to an album that is otherwise thoroughly humdrum. However the only real, genuine slice of promise across this whole disc arrives in the shape of the memorable "Father Murphy", where at least a little threat is leant to an ever altering guitar attack; causing it to seriously stand out from the otherwise formulaic and safe fare found elsewhere.

Lost Reflection may be Fucro's "baby", but in truth alongside second guitarist Piero Sorrenti, he has to take most of the blame for an extremely flat set of riffs, while his vocals are a simple rasp that becomes immediately forgettable. Leaving the fact that drummer Max Defender puts in a decent shift and that bassist Ivan Canella does his best with what he's asked to work with, as barely relevant.

Fair to suggest that any audience who might unwittingly be served up an evening of Lost Reflection sure as hell will be a Scare(d)Crowd, but not for the right reasons.
