Redemption: Live From The Pit

Los Angeles based progressive metal group Redemption are set to release their second live recording, the first was the 2009 release Frozen In The Moment – Live In Atlanta. Returning to Atlanta their latest Live From The Pit is to be available as a CD and DVD with extras. This release was recorded back in 2012 once again at an event that features some of the best power and progressive metal groups the ProgPower Festival. Redemption's performances on this album are all top notch as they enthusiastically play a selection of their best songs

The years sure have flown us by since Redemption's last album This Mortal Coil of 2011, and this release includes one of the best tracks from that release "Dreams From The Pit" which sounds very impressive on here, Live From The Pit also features songs taken from Redemption's previous albums. Live From The Pit's sound is very appropriate with the only exception being one of the guitar's which is a touch too low at times like in the aforementioned track, no problem elsewhere though be it the driving and prominent bass, dynamic drumming, vibrant keyboards or Ray Adler's distinctive vocals you don't miss a thing. My biggest problem with some so called live releases is they really don't sound like a live albums should, instead more like they were modified in a studio and end up sounding too perfect, there's no such issues with Redemption's Live From The Pit.

Redemption are still one of the premier progressive metal groups and for good reason after five exceptional studio albums. Live From The Pit should tide us over until that next one which hopefully isn't that far off.

Redemption: Live From The Pit

My Score:

Live From the Pit is a great document of Redemption's 2012 co-headline performance at the ProgPower Festival in Atlanta. Sensory has done the right thing for the fans by releasing this as a CD/DVD set so the best of both worlds can be enjoyed. For many of us who weren't there in attendance, we now have this scorching live set to enjoy for years to come. Featuring Ray Alder (vocals), Nick van Dyk (guitars), Bernie Versailles (guitars), Sean Andrews (bass), and Chris Quirarte (drums), with keyboards programmed & performed by Andy Paredes, Redemption are firing on all cylinders throughout this fine performance, tackling songs from throughout their career. "The Suffocating Silence", "Parker's Eyes", "Stronger Than Death", "Walls", "The Origin of Ruin"...yep, they are all here and more, as it's a set list that will please any loyal follower of the band. Alder is really at the top of his game, showing the fire with Redemption that seems to be lacking from his recent work with Fates Warning, and the twin guitar tandem of van Dyk & Versailles provides many heavy moments. As far as dramatic progressive metal goes, it doesn't get much better than this.
