Cannabis Corpse: From Wisdom to Baked

I never thought I would type a sentence like the following: I love Cannabis Corpse. Hmmm—now that I look at that unusual sentence, it doesn't seem so strange after all. Here's the thing: this band has sometimes been written off as a potential joke, a simple-minded paean to weed and to Cannibal Corpse. And, let's face it, not everyone is interested in either of those things. I never paid much attention to Cannabis Corpse until recently, mostly because I wasn't sure what to expect. I can now officially say that I'm hooked. Sure, these guys do have a punny and weed-soaked sense of humor, but they know how to play their instruments and can even grunt and growl with the best of them.

Now that I've spent a paragraph gushing over this band, I'll get down to the business of reviewing the new album. Coming in at about 40 minutes, From Wisdom to Baked delivers nothing less than consistently tight and aggressive extreme heavy metal played just about to perfection. I know that some listeners will say that all the songs sound about the same. There's some truth to that, but sometimes listeners don't want anything other than extreme metal played just like this. Interested listeners could pick up this album, put on any of its eleven tracks, and hear nothing but strong guitar leads, heavy and brutal bass lines, and powerful, aggressive, drumming. To me, that can only mean one thing: this album delivers the goods.
