Those beer swilling German thrashers Tankard are back yet again with another hops drenched collection of mashers, titled R.I.B., which, as you can probably guess, stands for 'Rest in Beer'. Though at times over the years it's been hard to take this band seriously with some of their silly lyrical content, their songs generally kick some serious butt from a musical perspective, and R.I.B. is no exception. "Riders of the Doom", "War Cry", and "No One Hit Wonder" are excellent thrash tunes, the band not willing to take a back seat to fellow German acts Kreator, Destruction, Sodom, or Accept when it comes to delivering pure neck snapping fury. "Breakfast of Champions" and the title track are silly as all hell, but it's hard to resist those effective riffs or Gerre's gruff vocal attack. And, when you have a song like "The Party Ain't Over 'Til We Say So", I mean, that's so 'metal' it isn't even funny.
R.I.B. is ultimately lunkheaded heavy metal fun for fans of all ages, an album you can't quite take too seriously but can still have a blast with and enjoy for its pure headbanging qualities. And that basically sums up the career of Tankard, who no doubt will keep providing more of this type of thing for years to come.
