Led Bib: The Good Egg/ The People in Your Neighborhood

The British Quintet Led Bib have chosen to celebrate their tenth anniversary with simultaneous releases on the Cuneiform record label. Firstly there's the studio effort The People In Your Neighborhood and the limited edition live album on vinyl entitled The Good Egg. Both are more than worthy of the attention of anybody who chooses to visit this website. Recorded mostly at London's Vortex Jazz Club, The Good Egg is particularly thrilling in its scope and masterful musicianship so much so that it even sounds great on the crappy old Ipod I'm currently having to use.

That said, The People in Your Neighborhood is every bit as good with layered textures and insane rhythms abound. It's not necessarily an easy listen especially in this day and age where we all appear to want instant gratification, it takes two or three listens to both albums to get into the weird and wonderful world of Led Bib but once you are in tune with their eclectic jazz sound it's tremendously enjoyable.

Drummer Mark Holub, Led Bib's founder and primary composer says, "We're more about group improvising, and developing tunes with sections that may or may not open up." Therein lies the beauty of both albums, the listener never knows what exactly is around the bend but there is immense pleasure in finding out.
