Cybermonkey: Planes, Trance and Life's Karma Wheels

The whole thing with ambient-based music is that I never really know if it's any good or not. I mean, I know if and when I like it or if it annoys the living daylights outta me but as for the empirical value? I'm usually screwed without a notion. That said, I also recognize jokers when I hear 'em, those guys with a four track, an effects rack and way too much tape around the house. Cybermonkey isn't one of those acts. Thankfully.

Rather, it's a collective bent on creating sounds you can meditate to, that you pray to, that you can heal to. But so what, right? I mean, I could record a pair of barber's shears for 80 minutes and claim the same thing. But the fact is, it works here. The music's trippy, far-out and well-executed and, perhaps most importantly, it has a spine. It doesn't just lie there, expecting you to "get it." Rather, it comes for you, takes hold and makes you better for having heard it.

Recommended for those on a spiritual quest or those who think that they might be. Stay away if you're looking for Ozric Tentacles II or some humorous space rock collective. Ain't gonna happen here. Good stuff, especially with headphones.
