Gravity Storm: No Tomorrow

The debut record from U.K. Prog Metal band, Gravity Storm, entitled No Tomorrow, features 9 finely crafted tunes that demonstrate a maturity and excellent musical ability. Gravity Storm's sound falls somewhere in-between that of an Alter Bridge meets Disturbed meets Dream Theater. Their sound is heavy with a discipline leaning towards the Prog sensibilities of musicianship and detail.

No Tomorrow is a solid debut effort that comes across as a band that has been together for quite sometime, when in fact Gravity Storm has only been a band for close to 2 years. Beyond their eloquent individual capabilities, the batch of songs that they have put forth on this release are a nice meld of efforts. Vocals are a clean and clear and the overall production is crisp and full. "Eyes of Providence", "It Won't Be Long" and "Dark Wings" are all stand out tracks with excellent guitar performances by Matt Chalk, as well as nice emotive vocal styling's by vocalist, James Lowe (both co-writers of all 9 tracks). Lowe's vocals remind me of a mix of a more baritone James Le Brie of Dream Theater with a slight tinge of Shinedown's Brent Smith and coupled with modern Prog-ish heavy sound that is quite their own.

Gravity Storm's No Tomorrow is full of brooding and dark with enough uplifting spots to balance out the ride. These guys manage to have an almost 90's Alternate feel to them, while at the same time sounding very modern day Porcupine Tree-like. The way Gravity Storm has managed to fuse their different influenences and come out the other side sounding very much like themselves is very respectable. The only knock on the band would be that some of their tunes are not overly memorable. Good, but not great and overall I like the record and I think that time will be on the bands side. Also, check out the bands website for some really great cover tune video's that they put up. As of this writing, there is a great cover of the Whitesnake classic, "Bad Boys" up on their site. Good stuff.
