Flaming Row is a German metal/progressive band that has created one of the year's most exciting prog – metal concept albums so far. Mirage – A Portrayal of Figures is full of a guest list of artists and vocalists that reads like a Who's Who of the progressive metal genre.

Together the band and this impressive guest list bring to life the story of this concept album, set in the future where an alien force, The Minders, is raging havoc on the Earth. They fear humans will destroy the "mighty equation" of space. Humanity has advanced technologically, but has lost its humanity and ability to control the devastation it is causing on Earth. The Magistrate has decided to annihilate the human race to prevent the destruction of the planet. Devastating solar storms engulf the Earth threatening to destroy all life. The surviving humans unite to free their world from attack. However, John, one of the leaders may have a different plan in mind…

The opening, an over 16 minute barrage and overture like setting runs the gamut from ELP to jazz, to heavy metal all within the first seven minutes. It is a great introduction to a musical experience you will not want to miss this year. This album is full of all the power and glorious instrumentation, drama, and strong vocals you expect from an Arjen Lucassen production. Nothing is missing. Long epics and short tracks...enough for both types of fans.
