Swedish hard hitting old school melodic hard rockers Captain Black Beard return with album number two, Before Plastic, which follows on from their extremely well received eponymous debut from back in 2011. This time around the quartet has also roped in a trio of special guest lead guitarists to lend a hand, namely Bruce Kulick (KISS, Grand Funk Railroad, Union), Tommy Denander (Imperia, Radioactive) and Mats Karlsson (220 Volt, The Summit). Up tempo rockers with catchy riffs and hook filled choruses are all hear in abundance and Captain Black Beard prove to be up to the task of making the album sound fresh and original even though they are very much going over well-trodden ground.
Before Plastic is the perfect accompaniment to those warm summer feel good days when you just want to kick back old school without looking for too much in the way of substance and depth – take a look at titles such as 'Keep On Drivin', 'Shout' and 'Life's What You Make It' and they pretty much speak for themselves. The special guests contributions are all top-notch but don't detract from the tight knit energy that the core band displays. Overall this is an album that is easy and pleasing on the ears that begs to be played live and should win Captain Black Beard plenty of new admirers.
