Star Insight: Messera

Founded in Seinäjoki back in 2005, but is now located in Lapua, Star Insight is a symphonic metal band who have four self-released records behind them but are now with Finnish record label Inverse Records, a label who pump out albums at a quite frankly alarming rate – especially as some of them aren't particularly good. This one, however, is pretty good indeed.

There's quite a lot going on here; In addition to symphonic parts, industrial sounds, punk riffs, ambient, almost dancey musings there's the obligatory power metallic drum pedaling. Mikael Nurmi – guitars, Pekka Rajala – vocals, Jesse Etelämäki – guitars/vocals, Aapo Timonen – bass, Jussi-Pekka Salimäki – keyboards and Teemu Sohlström – drums, have put together a really enjoyable album which doesn't outstay its welcome. The addition of female vocals on "Poem of Misery" (no idea by who as there's no info available) is a real boon adding some light to the band's shade which includes death metal vocals throughout but for an independent release everything sounds great and this is a little gem of an album.
