I have a bit of a soft spot for Svart Records, they put out some really interesting material, much of which deserves to gain a wider audience and according to Svart,"Finland had a short lived but very active gothic post punk scene in the early 80s, with the most popular Helsinki area bands such as Musta Paraati and Kuudes Tunti having become perennial cult favorites. But the western coastal town Pori, had a small, vivid scene as well. Before Hexenhaus, whose demo compilation was released on Svart in 2013, there was Psyyke, who issued their debut 7 inch single in the autumn of 1983." Now thirty years on we are offered a snapshot of those times with this compilation.
Whether it fits nicely on this website is a decidedly interesting point, at times the material veers towards what was once called New Wave and there's a Devo-like quality to songs such as "Neondertal" and Echo and the Bunnymen's chiming guitars make regular appearances. Much of the production is exactly as primitive as one might expect and I found this release interesting if not exactly essential.
