The good people at Svart Records describe Rippikoulu's work as, "is bleak and nearly unbearably heavy in its execution, dark and soul-searching in its themes, intertwining faster bursts of chaos with slow, doomy passages," which perfectly encapsulates Musta Seremonia. The label and this album have a long history as a reissue of the original 1993 tape was one of the earliest Svart releases back in 2010 and now here it is again.The album has been carefully remastered from the original DAT master tape, with the vinyl mastered at Orgone Studios for maximum analog pleasure and the CD being closer to the original tape.
Musta Seremonia is incredibly heavy and unfeasibly doom laden – it's the kind of album that will make your neighbors put their house on the market immediately especially if either of you have wooden floors. The vocals sound like they have been dragged from the depths of some rat-infested sewer where weedy riffs go to die. It absolutely isn't for everyone but fans of doom who don't already own this one should be grabbing it immediately. Myself, I'm off for a lie down.
