Connoisseur: Stoner Justice

I can't be sure if this is pot-oriented music in the style of Cannabis Corpse or something else entirely. In the end, it probably doesn't really matter much. This band has a sense of humor but the music is also pretty much dedicated to marijuana and its effects. If it's meant to be ironic or tongue-in-cheek, then I've missed the joke. All I hear is some pretty earnest music about pot. To my mind, it makes for a silly theme, but what's one reviewer to do?

What may surprise most readers is that the music here is actually not stoner metal but something much more punk-oriented. I thought it was pretty good. The sound is strong and heavily distorted. The singing is deep and throaty, a cross between hardcore and yelling. I admired the energy of the whole thing. I also liked that some of the songs came in under one minute. I get a weird thrill out of hearing what a band can do with music in less than a minute. The other tracks are a bit longer, but only somewhere between three and four minutes.

It's available on cassette and as a free download from Tankcrimes. See what you think.
