Locusta: Dendromorphosis EP

This short release, available at live shows and elsewhere, is mostly a preview of one song from the band's upcoming new album. As of right now, there aren't any details on when the new album will come out, but the band certainly wants their fans to know that good things are coming. As for the track in question, "Contaminant Remains" is solid. It leads out with memorable hook, one that leads effectively into the vocals and the rest of the track. The song reminds me a little bit of early-to-mid work by Death, though the vocals are deeper and darker. "Contaminant Dreams" is also the best sounding track on the album. The production is sharper and crisper. The rest of the EP is a bit less polished.

Speaking of Death, this EP also includes a convincing cover of "See Through Dreams." I will probably always like the original version best, but Locusta hits all technical guitar parts with skill and precision. It's worth a listen. The other two tracks are also good. I especially enjoyed "The Cull." For fans of Locusta, this short release should hold them over for the new album.

Track Listing:
1. Contaminant Remains
2. (Cellular Transmutation Through) Dendromorphosis
