Storm Chronicles: Looking Backward

Storm Chronicles are essentially a duo consisting of David Burr - keyboards, guitars, samples, drums, bass and vocals and his sidekick vocalist Jody Dietz and they suggest that their music is aimed at fans of Peter Gabriel, Fleetwood Mac, Marillion, Tears for Fears, Genesis, Coldplay, Pink Floyd, Spock's Beard. So, a kind of soft, poppy yet progressive style then? Yep.

The first thing I noticed, somewhat bizarrely, is how much, to my ears, Jody Dietz sounds like Madonna! As arguably the most successful female in western popular culture this is not necessarily a bad thing. The Fleetwood Mac comparison is at its most obvious on "Corners" which has a smooth 70s vibe and wouldn't be out of place on one of the current Yacht rock compilations clogging up the shops (and by shops I mean online retailers.) Similarly, "Cast in Faith" mines a soft rock seam and if we add in the frankly lovely "Looking Backward, Part 2" we have an independently produced product of genuine quality.
