Abramis Brama: Enkel Biljett

Now in existence for over 15 years, Swedish hard rock act Abramis Brama have consistently delivered '70s styled heavy music sung in their native tongue over the course of a handful of stirring studio & live releases. Enkel Biljett, their latest album for Transubstans Records, continues that trend, and offers up 10 tracks of guitar heavy classic rock for all music fans who can't get enough of vintage sounds that take them back to the 1970s. Though the language barrier might be a problem for some English speaking fans, the vocals of Ulf Torkelsson are actually quite good and very powerful. For most, it's all going to be about the riffs, and this album contains a boatload of them, as well as scorching lead guitar, all courtesy of Peo Andersson, who is one hell of a tasty player, obviously well schooled in the styles of Black Sabbath, Mountain, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Budgie, Cactus, Leaf Hound, Humble Pie, Captain Beyond, and the like. Not a weak song to be had here, with "Vaggar Mig Till Ro", "Ett Steg Från Graven", and the title track giving the most bang for the buck as far as heavy, proto-metal riffs, while "Ber Om Nåd" and "Lång Tripp" dive into more bluesier waters and extended musical passages. "Jonzos Bolero" sees the band move into prog/psych territory, adding another dimension to the already varied platter on display here.

Swedish vocals or not, Enkel Biljett is well worth your attention if you love classic '70s hard rock sounds. Though I'd love to hear Abramis Brama take a stab at English lyrics in the future, they could continue on in their native language and I'd be just as happy. Recommended.
