Wretched: Cannibal

Wretched, for the uninitiated are Steven Funderburk – guitar, Adam Cody – vocals, Joel Moore – guitar, Andrew Grevey – bass as well as Marshall Wieczorek – drums and from the streets of Charlotte, North Carolina, they have, "come to unleash their brand of technical death metal unto fans everywhere. Bursting with tight riffs and strong harmonies, they have taken the underground world by storm." I can very much imagine why this is, from the unfeasibly rhythmic drums of Wieczorek to the uncompromising riffs and vocals, Cannibal is high quality music.

That said, it is also just a tad niche but within the realm of technical/death and in particular melodic death metal this is bound to be one of the year's better releases possibly because whilst they are technical in their approach they aren't too technical as they have a grip on melody and know when to just be a damn fine metal band. Arguably the key track is the epic instrumental title tune which gives all the players in the band a chance to shine and boy do the all take it! It is the one song on the album which absolutely justifies this review on this website – if this song was on the next Dream Theater album there would be people crawling over class to proclaim it.
