Gun Barrel: Damage Dancer

I've always been quite partial to a bit of Gun Barrel, particularly their song "Battle-Tested" from the album of the same name. So it is with a bit of a heavy heart that I have to say that I'm by no means convinced by Damage Dancer. Even on their earlier LMP albums such as Battle-Tested, Suicide Drive and Bombard Your Soul the German band didn't exactly push any boundaries but most everything on Damage Dancer is lumpen and flat as can be heard on the title track which follows an equally tepid and utterly not-needed introduction piece. I love heavy metal and Gun Barrel certainly play heavy metal, all the generic codes and conventions are in place but there's just nothing on here which lingers in the memory for a nanosecond after the album has closed. One of the bigger disappointments of 2014.
