Sunnata: Climbing the Colossus

This band's Facebook page gives potential listeners a good description: "We are Sunnata and we love making noise!" And so they do. With this album, they give listeners nearly an hour of sludge, noise, and stoner metal. There are times, in fact, when these guys hit that sweet spot, the one where groove and head banging meet, the one where listeners can only stop what they're doing and let the music carry them away. There's something special about such moments and these guys have plenty of them here. The noisier, sludgier, parts of the album were also pretty good, though somewhat less powerful overall.

For those familiar with Polish metal bands, the members of Sunnata used to perform under the name Satellite Beaver. I'm not sure what motivated the change, nor was I familiar with Satellite Beaver, but I'm certainly interested in hearing more from Sunnata. Currently independent, this band needs to find a home, one that will promote them and help them find eager listeners. Be sure to check out the cool album art on this one.
