Suncrown: You Are Not Alone

Symphonic power metal is a style that many bands incorporate into their material with some more doing more so than others such as the group Suncrown. Suncrown formed in 2011 and You Are Not Alone is their second album the first 2012's Foillow Your Dream. This is not a small group as there are eight members who are not all from the same country, making Suncrown's quite the multicultural line-up. Everything is well covered with vocals both female and male, and besides those usual essential instruments they even have a flute player.

With no really long tracks to speak of on You Are Not Alone as most are of standard duration. Suncrown show their vibrant melodic side on "The Beginning Is Near" a powerful vocal performance ensues with multiple backup singers for the chorus. While "Who Are You" is not limited to it does radiate a Nightwish kind of feel with that dramatic orchestral arrangement, I do find this song very agreeable. However "Grandfather's Song" commences with spoken words of which I am not sold on, that is as to how well they actually fit given the voices of those chosen, I do though have no problems with the remainder of this song.

With more highs than lows the only other fault I can find is that the epic symphonic instrumental "Victory Inside You" should be longer, but then I'm probably just being greedy as I do enjoy this kind of song. Final track "The Gates Of Babylon" isn't an original with a familiar title but a cover of Rainbow's classic, and Suncrown's very appealing interpretation retains that magic of the original.

You Are Not Alone presents another option, and a good one at that for fans of symphonic metal.
