Structural Disorder: The Edge Of Insanity

The Edge Of Insanity was recorded by the new Swedish progressive band Structural Disorder. Their metal debut is a concept release with some clout as insanity isn't a lightweight subject. With The Edge Of Insanity's considerable length Structural Disorder haven't cut corners and taken an easy route for their first outing.

Structural Disorder are influenced by Dream Theater, Opeth, Pain of Salvation, Porcupine Tree, Anathema, Meshuggah, Tesseract, Periphery, Devin Townsend, Frank Zappa, Nevärlläjf, Beardfish and Killswitch Engage. As far as freshness goes The Edge Of Inanity gets better as it progresses, I'm not totally dismissing "Rebirth" it just has that too familiar style at time. Structural Disorder really pull a surprising twist when they next unleash the accordion yes the accordion for "Piece Of Mind", returning to the metal on "The Longing and The Chokehold" and a semi Dream Theater heavy feel and tells of the torment the album's main character faces, Structural Disorder's vocals are primarily clean with some growls which reappear again here. This is also the first of The Edge Of Insanity's three somewhat long tracks with the title track being the longest . "Sleep on Aripiprazol" caters for fans of progressive instrumentals with an impressive demonstration of Structural Disorder's formidable ability.

The Edge Of Insanity could be seen as an ambitious undertaking for a debut, and to their credit for the most part Structural Disorder have pulled if off very convincingly.
